Amir Or
Israeli poet, novelist, and essayist Amir Or has been recognized as a major voice in world literature. Or is the 2020 Golden Wreath laureate of the SPE and the recipient of numerous international and national poetry awards, including the 1993 Fulbright Award for Writers, the 2000 Pleiades Tribute for having made “a significant contribution to modern world poetry,” the 1996 Prime Minister’s Literary Award, the 2010 Oeneumi Award from the Tetovo Poetry Festival, the 2013 Struga Wine Poetry Prize, the 2014 Stefan Mitrov Ljubiša International Award from the Budva City Theater, the 2016 European Atlas of Lyrics Prize, the 2017 World Through Poetry Award from Blue Met Montreal, the 2019 Homer European Medal of Poetry and Art (Brussels), the 2020 ACUM Directorate Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2021 Wladyslaw Reimont and Ianicius Awards (Poland), and the 2021 Shabdaguchha Award (New York).
Or is the author of 15 volumes of poetry, including Loot: Selected Poems 1977–2013 (2013), Wings (2015), Child (2018), and Thirst (2025). His poems have been translated into over 50 languages and published in 46 books across Europe, America, and Asia. His novels include The Song of Tahira (2001), a fictional epic in metered prose, and The Kingdom, a novel exploring the life of King David.
